Spring
Training...
This is
Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona which is the spring
training home of the Colorado Rockies. The Cleveland Indians trained
at Hi Corbett Field from 1945 through 1992. The Colorado Rockies
then moved into Hi Corbett in 1993 for the team's inaugural spring
training.
Hi Corbett was a former Arizona state senator who was key in attracting spring training to the state.
Much of the stadium dates back to the 1930s, even though it's been
renovated several times during the years (most recently in 1999,
when a team store and a ticket office were added, and in in 1997,
when a $3.77 million renovation yielded new seating and expanded the
clubhouses). It holds 9,500: 598 box seats, 8,350 reserved seats,
and 562 bleacher seats.
There are
many practice fields here that are all often used at the
same time by the MLB
teams along with their farm teams.
Practices usually begin around
9:30-10:00 am and last until lunch time.
From there the players will eat
and get ready for the game that usually
starts at 1:05 unless it's a
rare night game which begins at 7:05.
When you visit a practice you often
find yourself walking from one field to
the next, over and over, so that
you don't miss anything. Below I have put
together the order of the
pictures as if you're attending the practice with
me and we are doing
just that...

This facility had something none of the others
did...MUSIC! They were CRANKING Latin music and it sounded great! It gave
a special vibe that made you feel like you were in a totally different
place. Wish all the teams would do this...
I love baseball. Living here in Phoenix,
Arizona I get spoiled with how close I can get
to these great
players. Considering the practices are free and open to the public,
I
will go to practice which usually starts around 10am, then grab a
quick lunch and pay
around $6 to get into a stadium that’s much
smaller than regular stadiums so it’s
quite intimate.
In the morning when I wake up I grab my
baseball tickets, put on my baseball cap,
baseball glove, find my beckett baseball & baseball cards for
the guys to autograph,
walk through my home and pass my baseball
display cases with each ball in it’s own
baseball holder (let’s
just say I’m a sucker for a custom baseball) which is right next
to my baseball bat holders in my baseball bat case. As you can see
I’m a bit baseball
crazy! Let’s not even talk about my baseball
card collection…
The problem I have is which of my vintage
baseball caps each with a different
baseball logo to wear for that
day.
If you choose to give me
your first name and email address above I will let you know
when I
have more baseball photos and cool articles to share…Enjoy the
photos!
